Etiquette 101: How long do you have to buy the bride and groom a gift?

The answer to the question above we feel is not one year!  We know that is what a lot of guests may think, but we truly believe it is not within the bounds of acceptable manners to wait an entire year to send a wedding gift. One reason we say this is because in this day and age online buying and shipping has made it a snap to give. According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: “…there’s no longer any excuse for such a delay –try to send your gift no later than two months after the wedding.” That’s a good goal to have, but we’ll give you three-to-four months max to send the gift. Any time past then you risk the bride and groom thinking that you didn’t and won’t get them a gift even though they invited you to their fete, fed you and showed you a fabulous time! In

Inspired By: Wedding Tents!

A very wise event planner once told us that when planning an outdoor wedding you can hope for the best, but you must be prepared for the worst. When thinking about an outdoor ceremony or reception, it’s important to be mindful of the fact that you’re on mother nature’s turf and ultimately that diva is IN CON-TROL. If she cooperates, it’ll be a day to remember. If she doesn’t and you’re ill prepared for what she throws at you, well, at least it’ll still be memorable…right? That’s just one of the many reasons you should consider pitching a tent on your wedding day. Before you scoff at the idea, take a look at our inspiration boards below and rejoice in the fabulousness that is…the wedding tent! Now that we have your attention, we’d like to recommend a few tent companies that we at Newport Wedding Glam totally dig. Before we get

Dear Donna, From Budget Blues

Dear Donna My finance and I recently got engaged and are wanting to start planning our wedding, but our parents have yet to tell us if they are contributing financially to help us with the cost of the wedding. How do you suggest we approach them? And What do we do about the fact that they have started to tell us about all their friends and family that need to be invited? Sincerely, Budget Blues Dear Budget, Ah yes, the age old question and problem of the wedding bill. My how things have changed over the years.  Yes, some parents of the bride still pick up the entire tab, but many more couples are sharing the expenses.   The modern world has brides and grooms who often want to do their own planning and are frequently of an age and in a time where independence rules. That leaves the sticky

Real Wedding: Lauren Bush & David Lauren

We have been drooling over these photos of Lauren Bush and David Lauren! The storied couple were photographed by famous photographer Norma Jean Roy and their day was featured on the cover of Town & Country as well as on the Huffington Post and of course in Vogue. Lauren Bush’s makeup was applied by Bobbi Brown herself and her hair was simply perfection. As for her stunning gown? We’ll give you one guess who made it. (Hint: the groom’s father). What a perfect combination of Victorian and modern. Honestly, her whole look reminded us a bit of another recent bride. Just look at this picture of the bride’s entrance in a horse-drawn carriage through a field of wild flowers and tall grass. Pure happiness. It doesn’t get much more inspirational then this!

Things We Love: Photo Booth Props

If you’ve been to a wedding or two in the past couple of years or seen pictures from a friend’s fete on Facebook recently you’ve probably noticed a new trend: the use of photo booths. Whether set up to snap the quirky and cute (think moustaches and silly props) or the fiercely fabulous (umm Vogue anyone?), these creative party additions are always a hit! A quick Google search of “wedding photo booth props” netted hundreds of links, but we especially like the kitschiness of old timey moustaches and Betty Boop-like lips that can be held to the faces of some of your more comical (and brave) guests. Such items, along with cute “Mr. and Mrs.” Props can be purchased from from The Little Retreat Etsy Shop and Party Goodies Etsy Shop or even made by hand. If your wedding falls near or on a holiday, such as around Christmas or New Year’s, why not incorporate reindeer

Etiquette 101: Proper Church Attire

Some of you might think we are being old fashioned when we say this, but we strongly feel that what we are about to tell you is important, correct and may even save you from future embarrassment: It doesn’t matter what religion you practice – if any – or how lax the dress code is in your house of worship, you must ALWAYS dress tastefully and modestly when attending a church wedding ceremony. It is entirely inappropriate for wedding guests to show up in jeans, T-shirts, sneakers, sweat shirts or dresses that leave absolutely nothing to the imagination. For some of you, this is a no-brainer. It’s done out of respect for the bride, groom, their families, their church and their religion. For others, what we are saying may come as a shock.  And no, we are not a bunch of old etiquette-crazed bitties trying to ruin all your fun

Real Wedding: Anne Marie & Jay

If we had to describe the marriage of our featured “real wedding” couple today, in a word word it would be, “joyful.” Given two words we’d add, “colorful.” The creative energy that went into Anne Marie and Jay’s wedding reminds us why we got into the business of gettin’ hitched in the first place. This event, held over Labor Day weekend, had it all and then some: a confident, gorgeous bride (she wore a non-traditional, vibrant, flower-patterned wedding dress made by her mother), an equally assured and fun-loving groom (he entertained the entire party with karaoke), and a spectacular setting (Fort Adams in Newport, RI). “Fort Adams was our first choice,” Anne Marie said. “Jay is from Rhode Island and I wanted a Newport wedding. The views are spectacular and we both wanted to be close to the water. We didn’t have a firm date, but when we found out

Real Wedding: Kate & Steven

Massachusetts native, Kate, met her husband, Washingtonian Steven, while in California and the pair planned their Bristol, RI wedding from Nevada. So it’s no wonder travel was an ever-present theme throughout the décor at their July nuptials. This gorgeous couple was married at St. Mary’s Church in Bristol on one of the hottest days of the summer, although Kate is certain the previous day boasted higher temperatures. “The rehearsal dinner the night before felt much worse!” The bride said. Family and friends traveled from all over the country to celebrate with them both in church and at the historic Linden Place, a Newport mansion and carriage house that perfectly complimented the bride and groom’s classic style and which served as the cocktail hour and reception site for their lovely affair. “We chose Linden Place because it really had the smaller venue feeling we were going for,” Kate said. “We knew we’d
